The Imaginary Word
April 9, 2007
Something for everyone... I am hoping to make the IW a much more active place. Though I think it’s evolving on a near constant basis at this point, I’m slowly shaping it into what I want it to be.
Today, I am reviewing three things - one for the reader, one for the listener, and one for the looker. You never know. This may turn out to be a new format that actually sticks.
Thanks for sticking with me through all the upheaval!

For the Reader
When the Rain Comes - Josh Rountree - Lone Star Stories
Definitely worth the time to read. A bit of history, a bit of flare. A bit of mutation, science, magic, swirled into the realm of an old-time, Wild West freak show. Calling to mind a time period I am enamored with certainly didn't hurt but that's not the only thing going for this piece. A tale of the human condition with some apt and beautiful phrases. Given a gift that is both blessing and curse - what would you do?
For the Listener
Mango Pretty - Cheryl Boyce Taylor - IndieFeed: Performance Poetry
Infectious. Riotous. The kind of poem that worms its way into your gut and stays there - a rhythm for a lonely morning, a soundtrack to a busy life for a girl who tends to wallow in goeatworms kind of days....
Perfect for me. Listen to it. It's worth the time.
For the Looker
Vladimir Kush.
With beautiful flights of fancy - his landscapes are of this world, beyond this world. Amazing and simple. Some of them are familiar - like the Book of Books - I keep feeling like I've seen it before but I know I haven't.

"You should have seen the way they cried out for blood. I frequent the boards at a popular SF&F magazine, and the occasional spam left by self-published authors trying to sell their books always provoked drastic responses. For me, it signaled a sparsity of opportunities for independant writers to market their books. Totally Novel is trying to change that." - Wade Ogletree, Founder of Totally Novel.
